All washing machines intended for domestic use and other uses are covered by the BEE Registration for Washing Machine under Standards: IS 302-2-7, IEC 60456 and Schedule 12. The parameters for Wash, Rinse, Energy Consumption, Water Consumption, and Water Extraction determine the washing machine's performance. A new star rating system for washing machines has been introduced by the BEE (Bureau of Energy Efficiency) to help users understand the efficiency of their machine before making a purchase. Although BEE registration is optional, most manufacturers are expected to register their goods. In addition to increasing competition, this will give customers more information so they can make an informed decision. The machine's water efficiency is taken into account in the new BEE ratings in addition to its ability to save energy.
