Standards for BEE Registration for Direct Cool Refrigerators: IS 1476 Part 1 Schedule 5. The refrigerators with or without crisper, ice maker, or frozen food storage compartments are Direct Cool refrigeration units of the vapour compression type. The main method of cooling is only natural convection. The Bureau of Energy Efficiency, Government of India, developed a star rating system for energy-efficient refrigerators called BEE Registration for Direct Cool Refrigerators. All refrigerator manufacturers are eligible to register their models and have them BEE labelled under the voluntary BEE scheme.
The energy efficiency of BEE registered products is indicated by a star rating from "Very Poor" to "Excellent" on a scale of 1 to 5. The more stars, the better. The more stars a product has, the more energy-efficient it is. A refrigerator with a BEE star rating is more energy-efficient than one without one, which lowers your monthly electric bill. Additionally, BEE encourages refrigerator manufacturers to create more energy-efficient models. Therefore, manufacturers should register their products with BEE in order to benefit from it as well as consumers.
